Which one should you choose?

  1. Choose 2 days if you are fit, have limited time, and have been at altitude before.
  2. Choose 3 days if it is your first 4,000 m peak, you want to enjoy the refuge and valley, or you are trekking with family.
  3. Choose a longer route if you want to add Ras Ouanoukrim (4,083 m) or the Lac d'Ifni region. Ask us about our longer Toubkal circuits.

Tips for either itinerary

  • Drink water steadily and eat well, even if you do not feel hungry.
  • Walk slowly. Altitude rewards patience.
  • Book the refuge early in high season, especially in spring and autumn.
  • Pack for cold nights even in summer. See our Atlas trekking packing list.
  • Ask your guide to adjust the plan if the weather or your energy changes.

FAQ

Is the 2-day Toubkal trek too fast? For fit people it is fine, but it gives your body less time to adjust. If you are unsure, take three days.

How many hours do you walk on the Toubkal trek? Day one is roughly 4.5 to 6 hours. Summit day is roughly 6 to 8 hours from the refuge, plus the walk down to Imlil if you do it the same day.

Do I stay in a refuge or a tent? Most itineraries use the Neltner Refuge. Simple dormitory beds are standard, and private or camping options may be available on request.

Can I do Toubkal as a day trip from Marrakech? Not realistically. The route needs at least one night in the mountains.
