If you have one free day in Marrakech and want to see the real High Atlas without a hard climb, the Imlil day hike is the easiest way to do it. You drive up from Marrakech, walk gently through the village of Aroumd with views of the Toubkal massif, and sit down to a home-cooked Berber feast on a family's rooftop terrace. Our private and shared tour starts from $85 per person and is rated easy, so it suits families, beginners and anyone who wants culture and scenery rather than altitude.

What happens during the day

  1. 9:00 am, hotel pickup in Marrakech. Your driver takes you south through Asni towards the Atlas foothills. The road climbs steadily into the Imlil valley, at the gateway to Toubkal National Park.
  2. Arrival in Imlil. Meet your local guide at the trailhead, a mountain village at about 1,740 metres, where trekkers start the Mount Toubkal route.
  3. Gentle panoramic walk to Aroumd. About 2.5 hours on easy paths through apple orchards and walnut groves, with views of the Toubkal massif above the valley. Your guide explains village life, farming, irrigation and local plants.
  4. Family banquet. You are welcomed into a Berber family's home for a traditional 3-course meal on the rooftop terrace, followed by a mint tea ceremony. Lunch lasts around two hours, so there is no rush.
  5. Return to Marrakech. The drive back brings you to your hotel at about 5:30 pm.
  • No climbing needed. The route stays on gentle paths, so you can enjoy the mountains without rigorous effort.
  • Real hospitality. You eat in a family home, not in a tourist restaurant, and meet the people who live in the valley.
  • Close to Marrakech. Imlil is about 1.5 to 2 hours from the city, so you escape the heat and noise and are back for dinner.
  • Great for families. Children are welcome, and our booking form offers a 30% discount for children.

Who is it for?

  • Travellers with one spare day in Marrakech.
  • Families with children and older travellers.
  • First-time visitors to the High Atlas who want a taste before a longer trek.
  • Anyone who prefers culture and food to summit challenges.

If you want a real mountain challenge, take a look at our Mount Toubkal trek guide. If you want something in between, the 3-day Berber villages and Azzaden valley trek goes deeper into the valleys with village stays.
